Many people are concerned that the January 2023 aid payments would be delayed as the new year approaches and various public holidays are commemorated.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) provides millions of social grants each month, and according to the Department of Social Development, social grants support around 31% of the South African population.
Sassa is in charge of distributing several awards to eligible individuals, such as the Child Support Grant, the Old Age Pension, and the Disability Grant
Sassa has confirmed that the grant payment dates for January 2023 are as follows:
- Older Person’s Grants: 03 January 2023
- Disability Grants: 04 January 2023
- All Other Grants: 05 January 2023
It should be noted that 1 January 2023 is also a public holiday, and because the first day of the new year falls on a Sunday, the holiday will be commemorated on Monday 2 January 2023.
As a result, Sassa will only begin making award payments on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Beneficiaries can get their grants in one of three ways: directly into their bank account, using the CashSend option, or by using their Sassa cards at stores.
Pick & Pay, Shoprite, Boxer, Checkers, USave, and OK are among these retailers. Beneficiaries will not be charged when they swipe their Sassa cards at these retail locations.
