Applications for Gauteng Late School are now open

Parents and guardians in Gauteng who did not submit school applications on behalf of their children for the 2023 academic year will now be able to apply for their children's placement. However, the application procedure has changed since the first application time.

Late applications for 2023 Grade 1 and Grade 8 placements have been launched by the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE). However, the agency has warned that parents would be constrained in their options.

On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, the late application process for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placement for the 2023 academic year commenced. This permits parents who did not submit online applications during the first application period to apply for their children's placement.

When submitting late applications, parents should keep in mind that only institutions with open space are accessible for them to select from.

Note that each parent may apply to ONE school only.

The student will be put automatically at the school to which their application was submitted.

Parents might apply to a maximum of five schools during the initial application period. Using its placement criteria, the department then tried to put the students at one of these schools.

However, due to the restricted number of school spots available in the province and the fact that the majority of learners have already been placed, parents will only have a few options for schools.

Parents will be able to apply online and attach documentation instantly. Documents that cannot be posted electronically may be physically delivered to schools from January 11 through January 31, 2023.

The GDE late application period will finish at 00:01 AM on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
