In Limpopo, a woman, her elder sister, and their two children were arrested in connection with the death of her 12-year-old daughter.

The daughter reportedly died on Thursday, December 8, in Mapayeni village, which is part of the Giyani police district, and her 31-year-old mother was detained on Saturday, December 10.

MOTHER ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING DAUGHTER

The suspects were detained, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS), after an additional investigation found that the youngster had died from her wounds after being assaulted on December 7, 2022, after she supposedly left and didn't come home.

The mother allegedly summoned her older sister, who is 37 and lives in the same area, to come with her to seek for the kid, according to police spokeswoman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba. Their two 15-year-old adolescent boys joined them.

The kid was soon discovered, according to Malesela, and taken home. The suspects reportedly abused the girl once they arrived, made her take a bath, and then locked her in the room.

"The mother discovered her dead inside her room the next morning and phoned the police to report it.

"After conducting their investigation, the police found that the dead had apparent wounds and had been attacked after looking at her body. The Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit was given custody of a murder case.

The defendants were subsequently taken into custody and will face murder charges. On Monday, December 12, 2022, they are also scheduled to appear before the Giyani Magistrate's Court.

The two children' case will be handled in accordance with the Child Justice Act, according to the police.
